Hypnosis is a health tool that allows us to manage and empower our mind and body for maximum performance.
What Is Hypnosis?
Hypnosis has been perceived as a mysterious technique, performed by people with special powers. Stage hypnotism has given people a false perception of hypnosis. Stage hypnotists ask for volunteers from the audience, people who choose to perform for the show. There is nothing mystical or magical about hypnosis.
Hypnotherapy can wake us up from our self-imposed trances and help us focus our attention on finding solutions to our problems.
The British Medical Association reported its approval of hypnosis for medical treatment on April 23, 1955. The Council of Mental Health of the American Medical Association showed its approval of hypnosis on September 13, 1958 when it recommended that hypnosis be included in the curricula of medical schools.
Uses of Hypnotherapy
Hypnotherapy is widely utilized for weight loss and smoking cessation, however, its uses are very wide indeed. Some include addictions, pain control, anxiety, fears, insomnia, shyness, procrastination, nail-biting, allergies, skin conditions, managing stress, self-esteem issues, increasing confidence, study skills, improving memory, concentration and sports performance.
Who Can Be Hypnotized?
Anyone can be hypnotized as long as they have the ability to concentrate, have normal intelligence and are willing to follow suggestions.
When we are hypnotized we feel just like we do now, except that our limbs feel heavy or light as if we can't move them. Because we are in a relaxed and comfortable state we don't feel like moving our arms and legs.
Facts About Hypnosis
We can hear everything the hypnotherapist says, however, we may not consciously remember what was said. Many people don't believe they are hypnotized until it is proven to them in some way, such as having their arm float up or down unconsciously.
The hypnotherapist is just a guide who facilitates the hypnotic process. We are in charge. We only accept the suggestions that are consistent with our own internal values and beliefs.
Anyone can come out of a trance state anytime they wish. It's just the same as when we finish watching a movie and the credits come up on the screen, we come out of the trance state easily. Or if we are tired, we can drift from the trance state into a natural sleep and wake up as we normally do.
We can cough, yawn, move and laugh whilst in a trance and the trance state is unaffected.
A good hypnotherapist will make us feel comfortable and will teach us how to use imagery and visualization techniques to achieve what we desire.
For hypnosis to be effective you must sincerely want to change and improve your life. It is your choice, it is the power of your mind that is being utilized.
